Flash Story- The Movies

Johnny leapt from his bed seconds before throwing stars sunk into the area of space he used to occupy. His old nemesis Chaotic and his band of ninja robots had him surrounded and outnumbered twenty-to-one. “I hate these odds so early in the morning,” he thought and drew his blade from his pajama bottoms. Johnny had just enough time to finish off his foes, who fled screaming into the morning sun about how his defeat was imminent, and enjoy a quick pastry from the toaster before he it was time to meet Ed at the mall. Even so he arrived late and found Ed already sitting at their usual table at the food court. “Sorry, bro but there was a hoard of orcs blocking traffic on the turnpike,” he said as he slid into a plastic chair. “S’ok dude,” Ed replied and quickly launched into his story about disarming a bomb and saving Eastern Europe from nuclear annihilation. Johnny just sighed, the tale sounding vaguely familiar to the one Ed told the week before with just a few varying details. “So what do you want to do?” Ed finished and took a large gulp of his soda.
“I was thinking about seeing a movie.”
“Cool. What movie?”
“I heard that new movie Man Goes to the Drugstore is out.”
“ Man, you know I hate fantasy.”
“ C’mon, we saw that documentary on the pirates from Mars you wanted to see last time.”
“Fine,” said Ed dejected and they headed to the theater, but not before a throwing star almost hit Johnny’s head. “Goddamn ninja robots, “ he thought as the mall cops disposed of the ninja for attempting battle in a no battle zone. “At least I can escape reality for a few hours at the movies.”
